Hi Passtress, CCAs in university are not compulsory but they do make your university life a little more interesting. You can pick up new skills, contribute your talents and make new friends! There are many CCAs out there for you to choose from. You might want to take a look at the various student organizations, interest groups and societies: http://www.nus.edu.sg/osa/activities/svcs/societies.html

It really depends on what you are interested in!

CCAs in NUS Empty Dance groups under CFA

Post  tzelinnn Wed Sep 19, 2012 2:48 pm

Hello everyone! I suppose NUS is not famous for anything except probably academically?? LOL. that might or might not be true too. idk.

I'm from NUS Dance Ensemble (one of the groups under Centre For Arts - CFA) and from my experience, i think the more popular CCAs are:

NUS Dance Blast! - Hip Hop
NUS Dance Ensemble - Modern Contemporary, Jazz, Luigi
NUS Dance Synergy - Modern Dance

I don't mean that these are the best but these are generally the more popular ones cos they usually have ALOT of people coming for auditions when they recruit new members. Very Happy

Are you interested in any particular dance, Passtress?? Smile

There are plenty (and I mean plenty) of dance groups in NUS!

It really depends on what you are interested in and your dance background.

I was from NUS D'Hoppers and am currently in NUS Funkstyles, two dance subclubs under NUS Cultural Activities' Club (CAC). Most of the subclubs under NUS CAC are open to people with no dance background and no dance auditions are necessary. However, you will have to fork out some money to take classes. There will be opportunities for performances as well!

Some of the dance subclubs in CAC:
    D'Hoppers (Hip Hop)
    Jazzttitude (Jazz)
    Lindy Hop
    BreakiNUS (Bboying)
    Funkstyles (Popping and Locking)
    Social and Ballroom
    Salsa

WOW. so many CCAs! How do I know which one to join.... Haha.
Is CCA very time-consuming in university?? And will there be CCA points given during graduation or sth? Cos sec and JC have such thing as CCA points. wondering if uni works this way as well?

Some CCAs are definitely more time consuming than others. A lot of it depends on if you want to put in the effort, I guess.

No CCA points are given for graduation, BUT I think you can accumulate points to stay in hall. From what I understand, some halls require you to have a certain number of CCA points if you want to keep on staying there. Only some CCAs award points though.
