Types of jobs for CNM students Empty PR, Journalism, Advertising, Gaming, Teaching, and many more!!

    Hi KSN,

CNM students are really well-rounded in areas of PR, Journalism and Advertising so you can imagine how good the prospects are! Hahaha.

Firstly, if a CNM major specializes in PR, he/she can choose to work in any company that requires PR or even in specialized PR companies! which id basically almost all companies. However, from ex-seniors and some profs, PR usually starts off with kind of mundane day-to-day tasks (like reading the newspapers, summarizing important points that may affect the company, etc etc). But as you get promoted, the job can really get exciting and $$$$ if you manage to get to the management level! Since im still an undergrad, im not sure how true that is but that's what i heard about PR.

Secondly, if one specializes in journalism, prospects are kind of expected. Like in mediacorp, SPH, magazine publishers, etc. Also, since CNM involves New Media as well, CNM students are much wanted in almost all other companies as well! this is because more and more companies are putting up their information on the web and journalists might be needed to maintain the content of the website and update it with relevant and most up-to-date information about the company. this usually involves write-ups on company's activities and stuff like that so here's another job opportunity for CNM students.

Thirdly, since CNM provides modules in designing, undergrads can expect to get a job in the advertising industry as well! media companies, advertising companies and actually any other companies that require advertising to customers = job opportunities for CNM students. Once again, since we have the aspect of New Media in the course, it provides an edge for CNM students as well since we can design advertisments in print and also on web!

Also, CNM has been expanding in the gaming area whereby the students learn how to design games! this opens another door of opportunity in the gaming industry.

Well, for CNM students to go into teaching, I've actually checked the MOE website before and it states that CNM students can only teach English in pri and sec schools and GP in JCs. Lol. I think CNM might be more helpful to polytechnics like in mass comms courses? So if a CNM undergrad really wants to go into teaching, poly might sound like an idea (more relevant to CNM) if you don't intend to teach English or GP (which is kind of relevant to CNM but not exactly what CNM is all about).

To be honest, with the advancement of the world to the online space, CNM students actually have lots of opportunities out there since we are equipped with communication skills in terms of writing, designing, for print and web. For people who prefer broad prospects whereby they can fit into many kinds of work, this might be a good news to you but for people who prefer to have a specific kind of prospect, CNM might be good also if you choose to specialize in one particular area.

    CHeers! Very Happy
