many teachers and graduates often tell us that uni life is so much easier than JC's and as long as we survive A level's, life's good already. haha! well, im not sure how true that is cos whenever i turn on fb, i would definitely see posts from current undergrads, complaining about uni life being so hectic, stressful, forever pressed with time, feels like going through A levels all over again every semester, etc etc.

so im not sure how true is the statement that uni life is much easier than JC! any current undergrads can help me with this?
im sure this would benefit us in terms of preparing us for uni and make our transition from JC/poly to uni better!

    thanks in advance.

lol. i beg to differ. uni life is not MUCH easier than jc life. i guess it's easier in some ways. In uni, you plan your own schedule most of the time (apart from the lecture timings which the prof wants to conduct lecture at); you're given more freedom to do whatever you like. Tutorials are only once or twice a week or fortnight; and one lecture per week (at most two lectures). That's for SDE (real estate & pfm) students. It is a VERY different story for architecture and ID students (from SDE). They work even during weekends and also stay over in studio rushing for their submissions.

Why is it not MUCH easier than jc life...
it's because.. we have only half a year to study a subject (unlike in jc where you probably study a subject over a span of 1-2 years). On top of that, we have projects projects and projects which can take up alot of our personal time and drain us mentally & physically. Also, you're ALL on your own when in uni. There's no more spoon-feeding, no more "tuition" for the subject/modules. Well there are friends to help you along the way, but they won't spoon-feed you as much as your teachers in JC would. You have to be independent. So if you're the kind of jc student who attends a lot of tuition and asks for help all the time during JC, there may be difficulty transiting from jc to uni at the initial years of your uni life.

To add on to what minzyy said about planning your own schedule and being given your own freedom, discipline is key. They don't take attendance during lectures so you can always choose not to attend (at your own loss), but then again you are responsible for your own education.

On the topic of projects, time management is important. As an arts student, I can tell you that we more or less get to choose the modules we take every semester. That being said, you usually won't be able to find anyone with the same module "combination" as you. So when doing projects, you have to manage your time well and be prepared to sacrifice your "free days" for project meetings. Be prepared to have a more hectic schedule as compared to JC, because it's not just about studying for class.

Although you are expected to be independent and responsible for your own learning, you are not ALWAYS alone. If you're fortunate enough to get good lecturers, you can seek help from them. Of course, you have to be willing to ask for help. This might be tough to admit you need help at times, but they usually are willing to help. Also, you might be able to get help from seniors and your peers!

All that being said, don't be too intimidated by university life. It might take a while but you will eventually settle in Very Happy Good luck!
