I am new to NUS. Does anyone know what the yellow roof along the covered walkways is for? Looks like someone got a poor taste for color - why not blue or green?

Hello!
From what I learnt from my orientation days, the yellow roof gets you to central library. I later heard that it actually represents sheltered linkways that connect the entire campus.
Something like the yellow brick road in the Wizard of Oz.

Hello!
The yellow roof actually indicates a sheltered walkway! Basically it links the entire school, from YIH to Central Library and Engin, FASS, School of Computing, and Business School! The only disjointed part is actually a very very short stretch between YIH and Uhall (through Ridge View Residences) and another short stretch from Uhall to Science!

WOW. I didn't know that! I visited NUS a few times with my other friends and we didn't even notice that. Haha. That's cool!
